I love creating fairy homes for every season, and autumn is the perfect time to make a pumpkin fairy house. Pumpkins are nature’s ready-made cottages—round, cozy, and full of charm. You can use real, hollowed-out pumpkins for a short-term, natural look, or choose artificial pumpkins to create a magical decoration you can bring out year after year.
To create a house for the fairies that dwell in your midst, you simply need a pumpkin, a basic carving tool, and lots of nature items! This helps keep the cost down, provides you and the kids an opportunity to enjoy the crisp fall air, and creates just the sort of natural environment that fairies enjoy. 😉
Whether you set yours on a porch, in a garden, or as part of your fall centerpiece, your pumpkin fairy house will add whimsical charm to the season!

Materials:
- Pumpkins (real or artificial)
- Twigs
- Moss
- Bark
- Pine cones
- Small wood slabs
- 1 large wood slab (for the base)
- Faux flowers
- Dried flowers
- Mini Halloween figurines
- Mini tombstones
- Hot glue gun + glue sticks
- Cheesecloth, small foam ball, thread, stick (for a diy ghost)

Instructions
1. Make Accessories
Begin by crafting all the little details for your fairy home. Glue twigs together to form windows and doors, stack small wood slabs into stairways, or arrange bark into fences. These small touches bring your pumpkin fairy house to life.

2. Create a Ghost
For an extra seasonal twist, make a friendly ghost! Skewer the foam ball with a stick, drape it with cheesecloth, and tie it beneath the ball with white thread. You can “plant” the stick into your base so it floats nearby.

3. Add Accessories to the Pumpkin
Set your pumpkin(s) on a large wood slab to use as your sturdy base—glue it in place if you’d like. If you’re using a real pumpkin, you can choose to carve it or decorate it whole. If you carve your pumpkin, it can be lit later from within like a jack-o-lantern, but it’ll rot much sooner.
Attach your main features like doors, windows, and stairway.
Tip: If you want a stacked pumpkin home, remove the stem from the bottom pumpkin and glue them together for a tiered fairy tower.

4. Add Details and Decor
Now comes the fun part—decorating! Use moss and dried flowers around doorways and windows. Add miniature Halloween figurines and a tiny graveyard. Wrap grapevine around your pumpkin like enchanted vines. Tuck in pine cones as miniature “bushes.” The more creative, the better—this is where your fairy house really shines!

5. Don’t forget to add lights to your pumpkin fairy house!
To complete the ambiance of your magical fairy home, make sure to add lights! If you used a real pumpkin, you could opt for a real flame just like you would with a jack-o-lantern. Led tea lights are also a great (and safe) option. If you used artificial pumpkins, wind some fairy string lights around your display for a bit of twinkle!
Displaying Your Pumpkin Fairy House
Once finished, place your creation on a porch, a garden table, or even inside as a festive centerpiece. Real pumpkins may last a couple of weeks outdoors in cool weather, while artificial ones can be stored and enjoyed for many autumns to come.
A pumpkin fairy house is not just a craft—it’s a seasonal tradition that kids and adults alike will love. So gather your supplies, let your imagination run free, and create a magical little dwelling to celebrate fall!
